TECS History

Town East Christian School was founded in 1969 by Dr. Joe West and the members of Town East Baptist Church. The school ministry started with just a Kindergarten. The second floor of the educational building was completed in 1970. The building was dedicated to the memory of Bro. Jimmy Davis. Grades 1 - 8 were added in 1974, then later the High School. TECS held its first Senior Graduation in 1975.

What We Believe

SCRIPTURE

We believe the Bible to be the verbally inspired Word of God: the only infallible, authoritative Word of God. It is our supreme and final authority of faith and practice. We use only the King James Version Bible.
(II Tim. 3: 15-17)

GOD

We believe in one God eternally in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, His virgin birth, His sinless life, His miracles, His substitutionary and atoning death, His bodily resurrection, His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and His personal return in power and glory. We believe that the Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity, one with the Father and the Son, the indweller of every believer whereby each is sealed unto the day of redemption of the body. His presence in the Christian is the assurance of God to bring the believer into the fullness of the stature of Christ. We believe that the “fullness of the Holy Spirit” is manifested by the fruit of the Spirit (Gal. 5: 22-23), and by power in witnessing. (Acts 1:8; John 15: 1-8) We do not agree with modern day “tongues” movement.
(Gen. 1:1; Deut. 6:4; John 4:24; Romans 8:14-15; Isaiah 7:14; John 1:1-8; Isaiah 61:13; John 16:7-15; Romans 8:9-11)

SATAN

We believe in the existence and operational power of a real and personal being, the evil one called Satan or Devil, opposed to all righteousness, and exalting himself against all that God is and desires.
(I Peter 5:8-9)

HELL

We believe in a literal Hell, the place of eternal punishment for those who have not trusted in the shed blood of Jesus Christ.
(Luke 16:19-31; Matt. 25:46; II Thes. 1:9)

HEAVEN

We believe in a literal place called Heaven where God’s immediate presence is manifested, where the angels are, and where the redeemed shall ultimately be, from whence Christ descended and ascended again, where He maketh intercession for the saints, and from whence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
(Heb.12:22-23; John 3:5; II Peter 1:10-11)

MAN

We believe that God created man in His own image and in a state of innocence, but that through temptation, man willfully transgressed. All mankind is born dead in trespasses and sins, and is under condemnation, having inherited a corrupt nature.
(Psalm 51; Romans 5; Eph. 2:1)

REGENERATION

We believe that regeneration is a divine and instantaneous work of the Holy Spirit, whereby God imparts life to one dead in trespasses and sin.
(II Cor. 5:17-20; John 3; Gal. 2:20, 5:22-25)

SANCTIFICATION

We believe that sanctification is a divine and progressive work of the Holy Spirit whereby God, upon the ground of the finished work of Christ on the cross, His present intercessory ministry, and His divine Word, sets the believer apart and works out, in, and through him, by means of a submissive will, that which is well pleasing to Himself through Jesus Christ. This work culminates in the redemption of the body.
(Phil. 2:12-13; Eph. 5)

THE CHURCH

We believe in the one true church, the Body and Bride of the Lord Jesus, composed of believers form Pentecost to the Rapture, into which believers are baptized by the Holy Spirit. We believe that the local church is an organization composed of professing believers, instituted for the purpose of fellowship, worship, and service. In the matters of administration and policy, it is self-governing.
(Mat. 16:15-19); Acts 2:41-42; Eph. 1:22-23; I Tim. 3:1-15)

BAPTISM

We believe that Christian baptism by immersion of a believer in water, in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, is the Biblical mode of baptism, and testifies of the believer’s faith in, and identification with, the crucified, buried, and risen Savior.
(Mat. 3:13-17, 28:19-20; Romans 6:3-5)

THE LORD'S SUPPER

We believe that the Lord’s Supper is an ordinance whereby believers show forth the Lord’s death until He comes.
(I Cor.11)

The Second Coming of Christ for His Church

We believe in the glorious hope of the pre-millennial, imminent, visible, and bodily return of Christ.
(I Thes. 4:13-18; John 14)

SEPARATION

We believe that every child of God should demonstrate his separation unto God from the world system. This separation involves a fruitful, spirit-filled life of obedience to the commands of Scripture, and the refusal to associate with, or become involved in anything that would bring reproach upon the character and work of Christ and His Church.
(II Cor. 6:14-18; Eph. 1; Romans 12:1-2)

Our Administrator

Meet Mr. Stephens
Kevin Stephens

Born and raised in Colorado, Kevin L. Stephens enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1988 upon graduating from High School. Initially trained as a Field Artilleryman, his varied duties included: basic rifleman, artillery cannoneer, small & large truck operator, administration, inspecting and instructing, recruiting, as well as various other tasks and duties. During his ten years of service, Kevin was able to attend multiple vocational schools including but not limited to: field artillery cannon crewman course, recruiter school, sergeant equivalency, sergeant nonresident, and staff noncommissioned officer career nonresident programs. In 1991, then Corporal Stephens, served a tour in Kuwait and Iraq during Operation Desert Shield / Desert Storm. Throughout his career in the United States Marine Corps, Kevin received many different awards, citations, ribbons, and medals: [to include but not limited to] Combat Action Ribbon, Navy & Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Navy & Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Navy Unit Commendation, Sea Service Deployment (with 2 stars), Southwest Asia Service Medal (with 3 stars) , Kuwait Liberation Medal, and National Defense Medal are just a few of these recognitions that he has received during his period of service. Kevin received his last promotion on January 1, 1998; making the rank of Staff Sergeant (E-6) before being discharged later that year.

Kevin Stephens married his wife, April, in 1994, and in July 1998 he left the military to begin his civilian career. Since then, he has worked in various mechanical fields as a technician, store manager, mill maintenance mechanic, and contract coordinator for Asarco [a Tucson based copper mining company]. Kevin attended the University of Phoenix (Online) maintaining a 3.8 GPA while seeking his degree in Business Management.

In 2002, Kevin and April moved to Vail, Arizona. They visited Tucson Baptist Church, and April began attending faithfully while Kevin, who was not a Christian at the time, attended occasionally. As God worked on Kevin’s heart, he became more interested in [and started being faithful] at the church. Between the Holy Spirit’s conviction, the encouragement of his wife, and the prompting of Pastor Jim Howard at Tucson Baptist, … Kevin finally gave his heart to the Lord in 2008.

Since his salvation, Brother Stephens has grown in his walk and love for the Lord, and he has enjoyed serving in the ministry. He has previously served as a Senior Pastor, worked as the Superintendent / Youth Pastor in children’s and youth departments, performed as a Deacon, and began a RV park ministry, as well as traveled on multiple mission trips. In 2017, he graduated with High Honors and as Salutatorian from Tucson Baptist Bible Institute with a Degree in Biblical Studies. Upon graduating, Kevin was provided the honor to teach at the same Bible Institute during the following school year. In January of 2018, Kevin was ordained to preach by Pastor Brent Armstrong and the congregation of Tucson Baptist Church, and shortly thereafter he began looking for a church to pastor. In the spring of the same year, he heard that Pastor Tom Williams at Community Baptist Church of Devine, Texas was retiring and that the church needed a new pastor. After several long phone conversations with Pastor Williams, Kevin, his wife, and teenage daughter decided to travel to the small town and candidate for the position. The Stephens’ and Community Baptist both spent much time in prayer, … and in May 2018, Brother Stephens accepted the position of Senior Pastor. He preached his first sermon as the official pastor of Community Baptist Church on July 1, 2018. On August 5, 2018, an official Installation Ceremony occurred at this small country church with a big heart seeking to spread the “good news” throughout their community.

Kevin Stephens continued to faithfully serve as the pastor of Community Baptist Church until June 30, 2024 [a total of 6 beautiful years]; recently, after many discussions with Pastor Russel Riggs and numerous hours of praying, Kevin realized that God has called him into a new ministry here at Town East Baptist Church and Town East Christian School.

Kevin and April have three married adult children – Richard (Amber), Catherine (Paul), and Jenna Lee (Eric). They also currently have eight grandchildren (Dylan, Hunter, Madilynn, Everard, Genevieve, Aurelia, Cassius, and Kian).

Pastor Stephens is excited to join the Town East Baptist family … and they look forward to the future with great anticipation of what the Lord will do.
